Adequate, but not great

This is one of those situations where you truly get what you pay for. I purchased this item to scan the 1000+ slides my father shot over the years. I have a flatbed scanner that will scan slides, but it is a time consuming process. It is, however, a lot better in terms of picture quality. My slides were shot in the 60's and 70's, so many of them have taken on a slightly blue hue. This scanner magnifies the hue. I have had some success modifying the images in Photoshop to remove some of the blue cast, but it's not perfect.
But I paid $100 for the scanner. I wasn't expecting perfection. I was hoping to do a fast job with the slides and in that aspect, the scanner is fantastic. It truly takes only a second to scan and save the slide. Since all I want is to get them scanned until I want to invest in a truly expensive slide scanner, this is fine.

| I purchased this product after unsatisfactory results with similiar instruments. Slides that would have ended up in slide heaven are now downloaded to my computer. My slide collection was 30 to 45 years old mostly Agfa film, and remained in excellent condition. Color and clarity are excellent, not like the original slides, but better then what I expected. This product is easy to use, convenient because of it's stand alone nature, and great value for the money. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to salvage an old slide collection. |
Wolverine has some flaws

| This product freezes sometimes and has to be unplugged and rebooted. Little specks accumulate on the glass and you can't see them until you look at the pictures on your computer. There is a little brush to clean with but doesn't do a great job. All in all it was an inexpensive way to convert a LOT of slides but I was not pleased with the picture quality. I guess you get what you pay for... |
35mm Negative Scanner

| I was a little disappointed with the device in a couple of aspects. Cleaning of the glass is not easy and does have an impact on the quality of the scanned negative. The film strip holder has pins for placing the perforations in to allign the negative, but these pins are not positioned correctly and I had to use an exacto knife to remove them. Lastly, I was lead to believe from other reviewers that a 1 GB flash card was included. It was not and the internal memory is only big enough to hold about 22 photos. This becomes a pain when you have 24-26 frames in a set of negatives as you have to off-load the 22 before you can finish a roll. The unit also freezes up on occasion and I found that I had to reformat the internal memory after offloading each time to prevent this. But given the cost, it is still better than spending $.25 a negative having it done in a photo shop when you have a few thousand negatives to convert. PS: LCD display is a must. |
Very good, but must keep clean!

This device delivers what it promises: a standalone (no computer hookup
needed) mechanism to obtain digital copies from your 35mm negatives/slides.
Once you get into rhythm, it's not hard to load the film into the tray
and get them out again.
One important note is that every once in a while you must wipe the inside (tool
included) in order to avoid dust specs from showing up in your pictures.
You shouldn't expect professional quality pictures, but it's definitely
good enough for preserving your memories. I found that scanning prints
with a regular scanner delivered the same (or slightly lower) quality than
when I used this device. |
